The blocked regulation would have required employers bidding for federal contracts over $500,000 to report to the government labor violations committed or alleged in the last three years. Violations of federal laws regulating workplace safety, wages, and discrimination were reportable.
This repeal is one of a series taken through the CRA, which allows the President and Congress to block agency rules and prevents a minority in the Senate from filibustering. The CRA allows invalidation of a regulation with a joint resolution of disapproval of the regulation from a simple majority of both Congressional chambers and the President’s signature.
The resolution signed by President Trump not only repeals the regulation, it prevents the Labor Department from reissuing the rule or a substantially similar rule in the future.
