On Sunday, April 22nd, the Meals on Wheels Strides for Seniors event was held at Portland International Raceway. Families, friends, and colleagues gathered together with the unified hope of eliminating hunger and isolation in our community, while supporting the mission of Meals on Wheels. The organization began in 1969 with the goal to provide nutrition and social support for those over the age of 60. These meals are available at 30 dining centers around the greater Portland and Washington area, and there is robust delivery service those that are homebound. The cost of a meal is $7.39, but seniors are encouraged to pay only what they can afford, highlighting the importance of fundraising and donations to the success of this organization.
Barran Liebman is honored to support the core values and mission of Meals on Wheels through participating in the Strides for Senior event. Inclusion, respect, integrity, and teamwork align seamlessly with the values of Barran Liebman and the positive impact we hope to have in the community. According to staff member Linda deHackbeil, Strides for Seniors is a unique and worthwhile cause: “This organization benefits so many aspects of an individual. It provides a warm nutritious meal to those who may not have the stamina and strength to cook a multi-step meal. It also provides relationship and community building through the dining centers and home delivery.” Details about the Stride for Seniors Event can be found here.
