Lex Shvartsmann is a law clerk and future Barran Liebman attorney who is currently completing her J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School. As a law clerk, Lex supports attorneys with the development of employment trainings, legal research, drafting of discovery and trial motions, and revisions to client employment policies and handbooks.
Lex currently serves as Research Assistant to Lewis & Clark Law School Interim Dean John Parry and President of Lewis & Clark Law School’s Women’s Law Caucus. Additionally, Lex also works in the Boley Law Library during the school year, assisting students and public patrons in their use of legal reference materials. During the Fall 2024 semester, Lex represented Lewis & Clark Law School at Syracuse University College of Law’s Inaugural National Deposition Competition, where her team earned a spot as semi-finalists. Before joining Barran Liebman, she served as a Legal Intern for the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office Justice Integrity Unit and as a Law Enforcement Transparency and Accountability Intern for the Oregon Justice Resource Center. Through these roles, Lex gained experience drafting different types of court documents, interpreting statutes, and researching legislative history.
Prior to law school, Lex worked at the Idaho Nonprofit Center where she was responsible for monitoring state-level policy on behalf of over 800 nonprofit members. She also oversaw the Center’s “Legislative Watch” newsletters, authoring and publishing updates to keep nonprofit employers apprised of expected changes in the law. Lex graduated, summa cum laude, with a B.A. from Boise State University’s Honors College, during which time she served as the Founding President for the University’s Jewish Student Union.
